Seventh in a series
The 2003 season started with a bang for the Chancellors. They won their first 18 games and were ranked No. 1 in the nation before losing a game in the Las Vegas Durango tournament. Then they got rolling again.
After the loss, the Chancellors reeled off 14 consecutive victories to reach the Los Angeles City Section final at Dodger Stadium and a matchup with Carson High. The City title and top ranking in the nation were at stake.
Senior right-hander Justin Cassel took a 14-0 record into the game and didn’t disappoint. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and lifted the Chancellors, 3-0.
The top-seeded Chancellors scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on a single by senior catcher Jordan Sisson that drove in senior right fielder Keith Renno. Chatsworth padded the lead in the sixth inning on a two-run home run to right-center field by junior left fielder Bryan Petersen.
Chatsworth finished 33-1 and was declared the mythical national champion by three publications.
